1. Decide on your ecommerce system depending on your business needs. It is best to take time on the selection of the system you will choose. You may find an inexpensive system but you have to be prepared that it most likely will require you to perform more manual work and/ or change your current systems to fit its short comings. 2. Open a business bank account that allows Merchant Account deposits.
3. Open a Merchant Account that allows you to process credit cards. If you plan to process credit cards this is a requirement. An alternative to opening a bank account and Merchant Account is to use a system like PayPal which allows direct payments to you. The StoreFront 6.0 software allows you to use either the Merchant Account option or PayPal.
4. If you want to accept credit cards do you want to process the transactions in real-time? If so you will need to select and purchase a Payment Gateway. This part connects your Merchant Account to your website in real time. This is the area that people confuse as it is not actually required. You can instead have the orders submitted into your ecommerce system and then run the credit cards manually with your Merchant Account terminal as this is cheaper although its time consuming especially if you have numerous orders each day.
5. Once you have followed the steps above you just enter the information from the accounts you setup as directed into the ecommerce system such as StoreFront 6.0 and it is ready to make you money 24 hours a day.
